Welcome to Entangle Vanguard Edition!

Welcome to Entangle Vanguard Edition!

Entangle Vanguard Edition provides a very early sneak peek at the Project Entangle DVR platform. It’s intended for those who aren’t afraid to shed a few drops of blood while exploring the bleeding edge of DVR and streaming technology. In return you’ll have the opportunity to shape Entangle into the DVR you want it to be.

What’s it all about?

The Entangle Vanguard release consists of Linux DVR software and player applications for iOS and tvOS. As a participant in the Vanguard program you’ll be asked to…

  • Provide feedback. We always welcome your comments on the Entangle experience. In addition we may periodically send you short “homework” assignments to get focused feedback on reworked or new features.
  • Report issues. We’ve tried to get things into solid shape but we know there are bugs hiding under the covers.
  • Suggest improvements that would make your experience even better. We’ll use this to guide the development of Entangle towards a mature platform.
  • Watch live and recorded OTA TV! Whether you’ve got the afternoon news broadcast on your iPad while working at home, using your iPhone to watch a show you recorded last night while sipping a mocha at Starbucks, or watching Prime Time TV on the big screen via an Apple TV, enjoy live and recorded shows!

What you need…

  • A PC to run the Entangle DVR with the following minimum configuration:
  • An 8th-generation Intel Core mobile or desktop processor or better (e.g. Core i3-8145U).
  • CentOS  8 operating system. Entangle DVR will most likely run on most modern Linux distributions such as Fedora 28 or Ubuntu 16, however testing is performed only on CentOS 8.

  • 32 GB of free space on the system drive. It is strongly recommended that an SSD is used as the system drive.
  • One or more hard drives to hold recordings.
  • Gigabit wired Ethernet for connecting to one or more HDHomerun network tuners.

More information can be found on the System Requirements page..

  • One or more HDHomerun OTA ATSC tuners. All models from the first generation HDHomeruns to the current Quatro are supported. The fourth-generation HDHR4 dual tuner and fifth-generation HDHR5 dual/quad tuner models are recommended for their excellent performance in receiving ATSC 1.0 broadcasts.
  • A subscription to SchedulesDirect for program guide information. SchedulesDirect subscriptions are $25/year or $6 for a 2 month short-term membership.
  • An iPad, iPod or iPhone running iOS 9 or later, or an Apple TV running tvOS 13 or later.
